San Diego, Calif., August 9, 2019 – The Navy is facing ever-growing threats from both traditional and non-traditional adversaries. The threat slope is accelerating, and the Navy must rapidly respond with more capable ships and a faster technology insertion cycle that keeps pace with evolving threats. The current surface Navy Combat Management System software evolved over decades and has a multitude of redundant functions, disparate languages, and cross-threaded processes that make upgrade and enhancement development and integration testing extremely time intensive and complex. The software is tightly linked to the hardware making infrastructure upgrades very costly in terms of technology insertion, test and re-development. SOLUTE has been chosen to provide a capability that introduces continuous integration software development and enables the use of accessible commercial cloud infrastructure so that multiple geographically dispersed software development teams can participate in the design, development, test, and documentation of the software product. The design of this continuous integration process will include the ability to ultimately perform development and test efforts in iL2, iL5, and eventually iL6 commercially provided Government cloud environments.
