In conjunction with PMW-160 and the Office of Naval Research, SOLUTE’s virtualizing the Automated Digital Network System (ADNS) to provide significant reductions in Size, Weight, and Power (SWaP) without sacrificing any functionality. In its current iteration, VAST 2.0 has resulted in an 83% reduction in Rackspace, 96% reduction in power, and 94% reduction in weight over the standard ADNS format.
VAST provides the Navy with new opportunities for enhanced networking capabilities. Reduced SWaP allows tactical aircraft (and weapons) to access the ADNS network to provide real-time strike effectiveness, intelligence, and reduced time-to-start analysis. Reduced SWaP also allows more efficient integration onto tactical and strategic platforms that could serve as ADNS bridge/relay during denied SATCOM operations. The Software Defined Network allows integration of additional enclaves with little hardware growth or loss of SWaP benefits. Further, the Software Defined Network creates greater control of configuration across various hardware types.
