San Diego, Calif., April 10, 2019 – SOLUTE successfully demonstrated new technologies focused on providing solutions to advance emerging naval warfighting concepts during this year’s 21st Century Combined Arms Information Warfare Advanced Naval Technology Exercise (ANTX) 2019 at NIWC-Pacific in Point Loma, CA.
Assured Autonomous Communications Network (AACN)
SOLUTE’s Assured Autonomous Communications Network (AACN) concept, highlighted by Virtualized ADNS Software Technology (VAST), showcased network maneuverability and cyber resiliency capabilities which allow continuous communications for Navy and Marine Corps platforms operating in contested cyber and electromagnetic spectrum environments.
Full development of VAST will focus on dynamic routing strategies, use of software defined networking (SDN) and new routing functions to address mission constraints of mobile infrastructures applicable to air, afloat and ashore platforms. Examples include the stand-up/expand new routing functions to support a large deployment of new nodes such as a UAV swarm, creating networks for communicating with coalition partners, or Local Area Network (LAN) technologies for network enclaves (transport, data centers, and application hosting environments) that can be rapidly spun up and brought down based on various mission demands.
Remote Distribution Service (RDS)
Automated application distribution allows users to acquire, provision, install, and update software remotely…in a fraction of the time.
SOLUTE is working in collaboration with NIWC-Pacific, PEO C4I PMW-150, and Viasat to reduce the complexity of distributing, provisioning, and deploying software systems, such as GCCS-M, throughout the Navy Enterprise. Software is typically installed by sending Software Engineers and/or System Administrators to remote locations with physical installation media and manual installation instructions. These processes are both costly and error prone due to the complexity of modern applications, which consist of multiple users, interfaces, databases, services, and other components, each with their own configuration parameters. RDS provides the ability to remotely install and configure software to afloat users to reduce costs, logistics, and provide tactical platforms the required operational software in a timely manner.
IW ANTX Background: NIWC PAC solicited mature, fieldable prototypes from industry, academia, and government R&D organizations to participate in the IW ANTX as part of the Department of the Navy’s Fight Forward Task Force; which advances tactics and technologies within the warfighting concepts of distributed maritime operations (DMO), littoral operations in a contested environment (LOCE), and expeditionary advanced base operations (EABO). Leveraging new DoD Accelerated Acquisition authorities, select concepts will be funded to participate in 12 to 18-month prototyping and experimentation projects that progress through more complex scenarios and environments.
